Allison Tong is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Centre for Kidney Research and coordinates the Qualitative Health Research Collaboration at the University of Sydney. In 2008, she completed her PhD titled, “Towards consumer-centred health care and research in nephrology: understanding patient and family caregiver experiences and perspectives in chronic kidney disease.” Her research interests are in consumer involvement in health care and research and sythesizing qualitative research evidence. She is currently working on several projects including: patient-important outcomes in nephrology evaluation and research (PIONEER) project, community preferences for organ allocation, adolescent experiences and perspectives following organ transplantation and consumer involvement in the development of clinical practice guidelines.

Allison also manages the Hope Mission Centre "Enlivening Caregivers" (EnCa) project at The Children's Hospital at Westmead, a new support program for families with children diagnosed with a long-term illness. EnCa organises on-site activities (such as hand massages, craft, flower arrangement, art classes) and gifts to help families find some relief from the worry and stress they face. EnCa workshops have been run fortnightly with families who bring their child into the renal treatment centre for dialysis three times a week, with each session lasting several hours.
