After acquiring her Registered Nurse qualifications from The University of New England (1987), Marianne gained experience working in hospital wards, private community nursing, and pathology collecting centres. She then worked for the National Heart Foundation on a rural risk factor study, which sparked her interest in research and prompted her to complete a degree in Public Health through La Trobe University (1994). She then worked for the Western Sydney Public Health unit in the area of communicable disease control and immunisation promotion. She joined the CKR department in April 2005 to work on the FEVER project, and is now employed on the NEAT study. She is married to a teacher & has two sons.
