Michelle Irving has a background in dental health and a Master in Health Sciences Education. She has spent time in roles in public relations and health promotion in various health services in NSW. She moved into health guideline implementation research in 2004 and started a PhD in 2006 researching implementation of guidelines in patients with chronic kidney disease. She has lead or is leading projects in implementation research such as the implementation of the CARI iron and vascular access guidelines, a survey of Australian/New Zealand nephrologists and renal nurses on their opinions of the CARI guidelines, interviews with Australian nephrologists on the context of guidelines in practice and a systematic review of implementation of guidelines in renal medicine. She is married to a builder and has 2 children
