Premala Sureshkumar earned her Bachelor of Science from Macquarie University in Sydney. After graduating and entering the real world, Premala joined the Centre for Kidney Research at the Children's Hospital at Westmead, and she has been involved in clinical research since.

Her research interests have included kidney diseases in children closely associated with urinary incontinence, vesico-ureteric reflux and urinary tract infections. She has been involved in several publications on Urinary Incontinence and urinary tract infections in children. Premala completed a PhD, supported by an NHMRC Research Scholarship, in Urinary Tract Infections and daytime incontinence in schoolchildren. Outside work, she is married to a Computer Scientist and has two children.
