Richard is a future Paediatric surgeon and PhD candidate based at the Centre for Kidney Research and the Sydney School of Public Health. Having studied Medicine in Ireland, Richard moved to Australia where he has since completed postgraduate degrees in Anatomy and Clinical Epidemiology. He is a keen swimmer (and volunteers as a surf life saver on Sydney’s northern beaches) and has also organised the annual CKR team triathlon.
Richard’s PhD on: Trials and outcomes in Paediatric surgery, looks at several areas relating to Paediatric surgery in particular epidemiological aspects of paediatric surgical trials. Several related projects will evaluate the current state of paediatric surgical research for methodological rigour, aiming to establish an evidence base and agenda for future trials to improve outcomes in paediatric surgery. The projects involve epidemiological methodology studies, systematic reviews, data linkage projects and analysis of existing study datasets.
Richard was awarded a NHMRC postgraduate medical research scholarship for his PhD; the only Paediatric surgery scholarship awarded in the country for 2011 and one of only 130 scholarships awarded across the country.
Anyone interested in this area is encouraged to contact Richard. Richard enjoys teaching and has taught at the University of Sydney and University of New South Wales. He is always keen to take on enthusiastic students and teach them useful research skills. His webpages: https://sites.google.com/site/paediatricsurgeryblog/ and https://sites.google.com/site/richardmcgee1/, contain further information about his PhD and other projects. ”
