Sukanya
I am a general paediatrician. After completing my medical education and specialty training in paediatrics from New Delhi, India I came to Sydney in 2002. I did some further training in paediatrics here to meet the training requirements of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. I am currently working part time as paediatrician in the Emergency Department at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and doing my Ph D studies during the rest of my time at The Centre for Kidney Research. My research relates to fever in young children and how to improve clinicians’ diagnostic accuracy and timely management of children with serious bacterial illnesses when they present to doctors with a fever. I am also assisting with a study on children with obesity and who are at risk of diabetes to assess whether lifestyle interventions (including different types of diet) assist with their weight management. I enjoy my clinical work, teaching medical students and the challenge of research in the field of medicine. I have two children of my own, boys aged two and five who keep me fit and on my toes.
