PRIVENT

Prevention of Recurrent urinary tract Infection in children with VEsicoureteric reflux and Normal renal tracts Trial

PRIVENT is an NHMRC funded, multicentre double blind randomised controlled trial designed to determine whether long-term antibiotics prevents urinary tract infection in children. Antibiotics are given daily to the children over 1 year in which investigators, pharmacy staff and outcome assessors are all blind to the treatment allocation.

Recruitment for PRIVENT has now ceased at all sites.576 children are enrolled in the study. Children are followed for 12 months so the results of this study will not be available until April 2008. PRIVENT is the world's largest study inverstigating if long-term antibiotics prevent urinary tract infections in children.
