PRIVENT Trial Flowchart
IDENTIFICATION of eligible patients
Contact by telephone or letter
1st CLINIC VISIT
Shortly after diagnosis, we measure height, weight & blood pressure
We give you information on UTI
Imaging tests are explained
RENAL TRACT IMAGING
Ultrasound, MCU and DMSA done at lease two weeks after infection
2nd CLINIC VISIT
1-5 days after tests we measure
height, weight & blood pressure
Discuss test results and participation in the trial
Participants receive 2 weeks of prophylactic antibiotics
Non participants are given a referral letter
3rd CLINIC VISIT
We measure height, weight & blood pressure
Discuss trial participation
If participating, randomised to either placebo medication or antibiotics
For non-participants, a referral letter
4th 5th 6th and 7th CLINIC VISIT
3, 6, 9 and 12 months after randomisation
we measure height, weight and blood pressure, discuss adverse effects, UTI recurrences and other problems
ASSESSMENT OF OUTCOME
Incidence of symptomatic UTI and adverse effects of medication
