Clinical Monitoring in Renal Transplant RecipientsRenal transplantation is the best treatment for patients with end-stage renal failure. Patients are monitored following transplantation in an effort to maintain health of the recipient and function of the graft, using clinical, laboratory and radiologic measurements. Variation in clinical or laboratory observations may occur for many reasons, some of which are not due to a change in clinical status. Scientific methods exist for the analysis of variation, and have been widely applied for monitoring purposes in non-medical settings such as manufacturing. This project aims to assess application of such methods to the process of detecting clinical events in renal transplant recipients, with the aim of improving renal transplant outcomes. StaffDr Nick Cross, a nephrologist and PhD student, is developing and instituting the project as his PhD, with supervision from A/Prof Jonathan Craig and A/Prof Phil O'Connell (Westmead Hospital). |
